It was thanks to a J1 visa in San Diego that Deirdre and Mike met and while Mike was on a work trip to Poland, Deirdre went over to visit for a few days. And, Mike popped the “Will you Marry Me” question. The pair of them chose the charming Conyngham Arms hotel for their wedding celebrations.
Deirdre got ready at home in Swords. Her mum Clare had gone to a lot of trouble decorating the house with wedding banners and bunting. Ben the dog was in the midst of it all. We loved his two different coloured eyes, and all joked that he should have been called Bowie.
Deirdre had told me one of her fears for the wedding day would be that her hair and make up wouldn’t turn out well. Well, that certainly didn’t happen. She looked so stunning, especially when she put on her Alexander Bridal dress.
We whisked off a little bit earlier to get to Conyngham Arms to photograph the boys. We waited outside for the arrival of Deirdre and thought it was hilarious to see her sitting in the front seat beside her dad, as most brides always sit in the back seat! As it had started to spit rain, we took a photo of the girls in the front room while their very cool celebrant Joe Armstrong calmed them all down! The ceremony was full of fun, with candles being lit by the parents, a ring warming ceremony and a string quartet. we were blown away by Mike’s own poem entitled Amber Cloak, how spectacular to have something written for you. Deirdre and Mike are into their music, they go to a lot of gigs and festivals together. So the music was very varied from the Beach Boys, the Beatles and Radiohead! And it all went together perfectly!
Once the ceremony was over, guests drifted out to the gardens and we got a chance to take some family photos and a few shots of the bridal party in the quaint gardens. Deirdre and Mike took some time out and came out the front of the hotel and went for a little stroll together. The passers by in the cars all had a good look at the newleyweds! We loved the cake with two layers one of fruit and the other chocolate biscuit made by the two mums, Clare and Anna, who both play bridge together!
We heard that The Hitmen Trio were due to get the crowd on the dance floor later than night, and that Deirdre and Mike were off to Chicago, Cancun and Washington DC for the honeymoon.
