Elma and Michael met on a night out in the local pub Flannerys. And Elma told me after only a few dates, it got pretty serious. Michael proposed to her on a Valentines Weekend away in Westport.
Tom and myself travelled to Stradbally to photograph where Elma was getting ready in her parents house. The house was stunning, we thought the mum was a professional stylist as there were some great decor touches in the rooms, for example a old style velvet riding hat and boots under a table or a vintage dresser with china. No wonder, Elma and Michael had such a quirky rustic theme to their day with brown kraft paper invitations, mass scrolls in brown paper with hessian and lace ties, short bride and bridesmaid dresses, heart shaped umbrellas and even a volkswagon camper van and hunter wellies. We were very impressed to see that Michael had sent over a gift of 2 beautiful bracelets for Elma to choose one to wear on her wedding day!
Elma and her family travelled in style to the ceremony in Cadamstown church. Elma was so on time, that we had to ask her to wait in the car to let the guests get into the church before her. I think she was eager to see Michael!
During the ceremony, Sean De Burca sang and played the piano which was lovely to listen to. Then, after the ceremony, we drove down to a local mill where Elma and her bridesmaid/sister Louise put on their hunter wellies. Elma was very brave and got into the brook for some photos. We were just waiting for her to slip at any moment, but thankfully she didn’t put a foot wrong! She told me she plans to get a second wear out of the wellies for Electric Picnic.
After the photos we headed back to Kinnitty Castle and the pair of them jumped out of the van again for a few photos in the woods. Then, we left the two of them to enjoy the chat with guests while we went into the main room to see the fabulous vintage suitcase they had made up with the place names. We got to hear their band The Trips play for a while who had Elma and her party up on the dancefloor straightaway and we managed to persuade the newleyweds to venture outside in the cold for a nighttime photo in front of Kinnitty Castle. Hope they recovered in time for their honeymoon to Vietnam.
