We jumped at the chance of doing a Galway wedding when Emma and her family met us at the RDS Bridal Show. Its lovely to get out and about and see different parts of Ireland. Emma and Richard hit it off with me from the start as they own a fabulous handsome dog called Buster, so we spent our time leading up to the wedding, sending each other pics of our dogs.
When we werent chatting about the dogs, I learnt that the proposal was very romantic and a complete suprise to Emma. Richie told Emma that he was on call over Christmas and couldn’t come over to London with her. It would have been the first Christmas since 2006 that they hadn’t been together at Christmas. But Richie organised for Emma’s sister claire to pretend she was meeting friends for drinks in town in Christmas eve and told Emma that she couldn’t come as there wouldn’t be enough space in the car!
But Claire actually went to the airport and picked up a very nervous Richie and drove him back to Emma’s home house. Claire and Richie had to park two streets away to wait for all of Emma’s family to arrive home from work. Then they both walked in the front door and announced that they had ‘chips’! So Emma assumed that claire was going to walk straight into the dining room and not meet her at the door and see Richie.
Richie walked into the sitting room and got down on one knee and proposed to Emma in front of her whole family. Emma said ‘yes’.!!!! About two hours later Emmas niece Faye asked where the chips were. Priorities!!!!
When I asked them What annoys you most about your Partner?
Richie : her loose sense of timekeeping !
Emma: his ability to procrastinate over everything. Especially proposing to me!
They live in Barna by the coast, and the priest was just so entertaining. The weather was not great in the morning, raining and very windy. The Priest welcomed us to the church and said “you should see this church in bad weather”! The music was amazing – every piece of music they picked had a special meaning. For example, Emma walked up the aisle to Gabrielle’s oboe which is played in the film The Mission. Emma and Ruchie are going to visit the iguassu falls in their honeymoon while travelling around Brazil and Argentina.
Emma thought of every little touch, To remind her of her late grandparents she had their photos on her bouquet.
Their wedding cake was made by two very good friends with 3 layers; fruit, baileys cream and the bottom tier is chocolate biscuit cake.
Their cake toppers were cool – toys from childhood. Emma = Sylvanian families. Richie = Lego and star wars!!
We went for some photos on the beach, and Emma was great, not fussing about her hair or walking on the beach barefoot. It was very windy and she just went with it and got some very natural photos, not staged at all.
Buster was brought along for some photos at Gleno Abbey. He really was so good and looked so smart in his tweed coat.
The pair of them put a lot of planning into the day. They joked that Emma has been waiting a long, long time for this day. But like the first reading during the service says ‘love is patient’!
A great couple.
